The 4th of July Weekend was camping out at Clunie Lake on Fort Richardson. Duke and Aly got to come out for overnight one day, but they were just too excited to stay the other night. Aly did succeed in getting VERY dirty! And Duke needed surgery to remove a treble hook from his front leg. They both survived the weekend, and got a lot of swimming time in. Aly enjoyed chasing Ptarmigan and baby Robins with Kristine, while Duke just preferred playing fetch with anyone he could get to throw the stick. The weekend was spent fishing, sitting around the campfire, and riding the DRZ. TSgt Bennett (Dave), his wife, Mel, and her sister, Katy, were also out. Dave caught a big fish! (See picture below) Jake and Kristine caught a whole bunch of little trout, and Kristine even caught a 'keeper' - well, not a huge one..but big enough for the both of them to enjoy for supper along with a couple hamburgers! lol. On the 5th, Jake and Kristine took the Scanoe that they had rented out on 6 Mile Lake on Elmendorf to try and catch some fish. Well, the fishing was VERY unsuccessful without even a bite. We were kept entertained with some of the wildlife. We got within a few feet of some loons, and a small family of Mallard ducks. One loon almost swam directly underneath the Scanoe! Man! Can they ever cruise under-water! We also spotted a family of 9 little ducklings and their mother swimming around...cute little guys! The small family of Mallards seemed to provide the greatest entertainment with the help of a Bald Eagle. As we rounded a bend, we could hear the Mallards going crazy and diving all over, all of a sudden, the Eagle swoops down at them. He was unsuccessful, but it was pretty cool to watch. Of course, we didn't have the camera on this trip to catch any of this. Quite an exciting weekend, though!
