DRZ

We took the DRZ out in search of some 'duck ponds' for duck season and September.  Well, let's just say, we never found them!  =D  We ended up out at Beach Lake (just outside of Fort Richardson's boundary).  It was a really nice ride.  We even got to see a few moose along the way...big surprise, huh?!  We found a couple of new trails to explore and a ton of grouse or ptarmigan (they flew up to quickly to correctly identify them).  They sure do know how to make you jump when you are riding thru thick brush and all of a sudden they jump up!  After we stopped at Beach Lake we tried to find a quick way out of there...ie not going back thru all of the back roads of Fort Rich., but taking the interstate instead.  Let's just say after I jogged for 2 miles in a Carhartt, helmet, and boots thru an Alaskan swamp, we didn't find another route!  =)  It was good exercise, right?  We ended up going back the same way we had came in.  The ride wasn't a very long one (55 miles), but we were both a little sore the next day!  We don't exactly stop and take pictures while we ride...but the leaves are beginning to change up here..and it's gorgeous riding thru the woods with the aspen starting to turn gold with their white trunks and a few green leaves mixed in....*sigh.  It was a very nice evening!  (You'll notice it looks cloudy...it's not...it's actually smoke from one of the wild fires)
